With Loving Memory

On this most important day in history, we celebrate the forgiveness of sin and eternal life.  It is because of this day that our family celebrates the life of G-Momma knowing she is in eternal peace with the Lord.

G-Momma passed away on Sunday, March 26th.  It has taken me a while to be able to sit and say goodbye.  I helped write her obituary, and yet paused on writing the blog.  I have tears as I look back over the last twenty years of knowing and loving G-Momma.   She means so much to our family.

Del Rio, 2010

The very first time Daniel and I hung out, not even a date yet, just two friends playing tennis, he told me he was a momma's boy.  He said his momma loves him and would give him anything in her power to give.  The way he said it, I knew he wasn't bragging.  He was not describing himself as spoiled.  He was merely stating a fact; his momma put him first and would do anything for him.  Over the years, I have seen this to be true.  Having my own children now, I know exactly how she felt.  We are so blessed that she extended this love to her grandbabies as well.

Sherry suffered a brain tumor beginning before Daniel and I met.  He told me her 50s would be like her 80s, according to the doctors.  Her life was shorter than many, yet filled with love.

Niko is still asking to text G-Momma.  He tells us frequently that he loves G-Momma "so much."  Alexander gave the most beautiful explanation of heaven to his little brother.  Her father has had the unbearable job of coordinating the arrangements for his daughter's passing.  We are in mourning, but the glory of Easter means our sadness is earthly.  As the pastor said this morning at Mount Bethel in Marietta, GA, this is the end.  The end of sin here on earth.  The end and yet the mere beginning.
He is Risen!
What a gift to know G-Momma is at peace and whole once again.

G-Momma's obituary:

Sherry Mae Martin, 59, of Spout Spring, Virginia passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital. She would have celebrated her 60th birthday this year.

Born in Lynchburg, Virginia on June 18, 1963, she was the daughter of James Allen Martin, Jr. and the late Charmie Ann Gilliam Martin. Sherry was an avid reader, with a special affinity for the Harry Potter series and Nancy Drew collection. She enjoyed literature so much she completed a Master's degree in English from LIberty University. She spent much of her life living in Georgia and Colorado, but enjoyed her time in Germany the most. Sherry loved dogs and participated in a number of dog shows, just for fun, with her late border collie, Nina. She loved to travel, especially to the beach, laugh, and be surrounded by her family. Her grandsons call her G-Momma, and they love her very much. They enjoyed visiting her to play magnet tiles and have her throw acorns at them as they tried to duck and dodge her attempts.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her two children, Major Daniel Mark Martin, his wife, Zanna of Fayetteville, N.C., and Robin Michelle Martin of Divide, Colorado; her two grandsons, Alexander and Nikolai Martin; and two brothers, James Allen Martin, III and Randall Dean Martin both of Spout Spring, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Robinson Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family. An online condolence may be sent by visiting www.robinsonfuneral.com
